18H FESTIVAL OF TOLERANCE: Copa 71'
It's August 1971. Soccer teams from England, Argentina, Mexico, France, Denmark and Italy have gathered at the sun-drenched Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The magnitude of the tournament is monumental: generous sponsorship, extensive television coverage, merchandise on every corner and crowds of over 100,000 roaring fans turn this historic stadium into an all-out din from one game to the next.
The rising media treats the players like they are rock stars. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the greatest moments in international football history. But this tournament is different from all the previous ones. All the players on the field are women. And you've probably never even heard of it. It is about the pioneering unofficial Women's World Cup, Copa '71. It was not recognized by the governing body or domestic football associations around the world, so this event was left aside in history. Until now.
