18H FESTIVAL OF TOLERANCE: Memoir of a Snail

18H FESTIVAL OF TOLERANCE: Memoir of a Snail

Australia 94 min.

In the 1970s, Grace lives an unhappy life in Australia. After their mother dies during pregnancy, she and her twin brother Gilbert are raised by their former juggler, paraplegic-alcoholic father, Percy.

Despite a life full of love, tragedy strikes again when Percy dies in his sleep. Brother and sister are forcibly separated and taken to separate homes. Gilbert finds himself in the care of a cruel evangelical family, while Grace struggles with overwhelming loneliness and slowly withdraws into her shell, like the snails she collects. Years pass, but despite new disappointments and sadness, a glimmer of hope appears when he makes permanent friends with an older, crazy woman named Pinky.
