All the Beauty and the Bloodshed
The epic, emotional and layered story of Nan Goldin, an artist and activist of international reputation, is told through her projections, intimate interviews, and revolutionary photographs. Rare footage of her personal battle against the Sackler family, whom she holds responsible for the opioid crisis, is also shown.
Goldin founded the activist group P.A.I.N. (Prescription Addiction Intervention Now) with the aim of forcing the museum to refuse the money from the Sacklers in order to preserve their reputation. Following the example of Act Up, they organized protests to draw attention to the toxic philanthropy of the family whose company Purdue Pharma fueled the opioid epidemic with its popular drug OxyContin. In addition, the group advocated for the destigmatization of addiction and harm reduction.
