Strong-willed widow Svetla, a former teacher, lives alone in a small Bulgarian village close to the Turkish border. One day, while hunting in a forest, she encounters an African refugee Bamba who is trying to reach Germany and she reluctantly offers him hospitality.

Bamba stays in Svetla's house for more than a day and an unexpected bond develops between the two. The duo provokes a revolt in a traditional rural community as they try to break down the barriers of intolerance, fear and loneliness through a series of absurd, comic and tragic situations.
