A tormented philosophy professor finds a will to live when he commits an existential act
A new philosophy professor arrives on a small town campus near Newport, Rhode Island. His name, Abe Lucas. His reputation : bad. Abe is said to be a womanizer and an alcoholic. But what people do not know is that he is a disillusioned idealist. Since he has become aware of his inability to change the world, he has indeed been living in a state of deep nihilism and arrogant desperation.
Should anything in particular be emphasized other than the fact that one of the best filmmakers of all time is behind this film? Of course not, but we will certainly mention that this is a special Allen film that re-examines the themes we are used to in his films. The impression is further enhanced by the excellent acting interpretations of the always fantastic Joaquin Phoenix and the talented Emma Stone. Humorous, insightful and extremely romantic, "The Unreasonable Man" is certainly one of Allen's better films back in the last 5 years and it would be a real shame to miss it.
