Based on true events, the film tells the shocking story of people who were sexually abused as children by the priest Bernard Preyant. Learning that the same priest is still working with the children, Alexandre initiates an action to try to put an end to him. That it would not be such an easy process he would be convinced very quickly, and in all this, like the other, many of Preyant's victims, he would have to reminisce about the painful events.
"By the Grace of God" (originally "Grâce à Dieu") raised a lot of dust in France even before the premiere, after an indictment was filed in 2016 against Preyant himself, who tried to stop its showing and distribution so as not to affect the course of the verdict, but the court ruled that freedom of artistic expression was more important and the film then went into regular cinema distribution.
Directed and written by the acclaimed and multi-award winning French director François Ozon, who as one of the leaders of the new 'New Wave' of the 21st century in his thirty-year (and a few more years) career made over 40 films, primarily titles such as: '' 8 women '', '' Swimming Pool '', '' Time to leave '', '' Potiche '', '' In the House '', '' Frantz '' and many others. In addition to "Silver Bear" at last year's Berlinale, the film "Thank God" also won Cesar for Best Supporting Actor and the FIPRESCI Award for Best Film at the Stockholm Festival.
