Kino Zona continues the program with the best films of foreign and domestic production. The program includes award-winning films from South Korean, Macedonian and Croatian cinematography, which delighted the audience at various festivals last year. The Zadar audience will be able to enjoy feature films, but also interesting documentaries and a pleasant conversation with the award-winning author Nebojša Sljepčević.
The 2020 program begins on Friday, January 10 at 8 pm, with the fresh Golden Globe winner for Best Foreign Language Film, also the main favorite of the Oscars in the same category, the South Korean film ''Parasite''. There is almost no ranking of the best film achievements of 2019 without this masterpiece at the very top. Opinion is shared with the critics by the audience, which, for example, in Cannes, after the screening, clapped for eight minutes.''Parasite'' is a bizarre blend of tragedy and comedy that speaks to the horrors of capitalism. Directed by Joon-ho Bong, well known for the films "Okja", "Memories of Murder" and "Snowpiecer".
A week later, last year’s Cannes screenwriter was nominated for a Golden Globe and a European Film Award, the French film ''Portrait of a Lady on Fire''. It is an intriguing film on the theme of lesbian love in the 18th century through the motif of painting. The film questions the meaning of gender, gender and sexual orientation, problematizes the topic of unwanted pregnancy and dissatisfaction with arranged marriage. It had its Croatian premiere at the just-concluded Human Rights Film Festival in Zagreb, and you can watch it in the Kino Zona on Friday, January 17 at 8 pm.
The Macedonian extraordinary documentary ''Honeyland'', which won over audiences and critics around the world, is coming to the Kino Zona three days later. Visually and narratively enchanting, the film speaks of man's contemporary attitude towards nature, unscrupulous exploitation and neglect of it in order to maximize profits. The screening is organized in cooperation with the association Eko Zadar, followed by a moderated discussion with numerous guests on beekeeping, environmental protection, etc. The film ''Honeyland'', nominated for two Oscars in the categories of best documentary and best feature film, is on the program on Monday, January 20 at 8 pm.
The first Croatian documentary on HBO, winner of more than 15 different awards around the world, one of the best Croatian documentaries since its independence, the film ''Srbenka'' is scheduled for January 23 at 8 p.m. It is a film that focuses on nationalism and xenophobia, ie observes the impact of Croatian society and public discourse on the lives of primarily children of Serbian nationality, who were born in Croatia years after the end of the Homeland War. The topic was covered through a series of theatrical rehearsals for the preparation of Oliver Frljić's play "Aleksandra Zec" about the murder of a girl of the same name during the winter of 1991 in the vicinity of Zagreb. The screening will be followed by a conversation with the author of the film, Nebojša Sljepčević, the current winner of the Vladimir Nazor Award, the highest state award in the field of Culture and Art.
The last screening will be on January 31, when a documentary ''Diego Maradona'' about the most controversial figure in football history will be shown at 8 pm. On July 5, 1984, Diego Maradona arrived in Naples for a then-record amount and hell opened up for the next seven years. The most famous football genius of all time and the most dysfunctional city in Europe were perfect for each other. Maradona was blessed on the field, but cursed outside of it; this charismatic Argentine very quickly led Napoli to their first title. Dreams were fulfilled. But there was a price ... Diego was allowed to do anything, as long as he performed miracles on the field, but when the magic disappeared he became a prisoner of the city.
Tickets for the price of 20 kuna can be purchased in the office of the Alliance of Independent Culture Centre (across the post office on Relja) every working day from 8 am to 2 pm and in front of the entrance to the Rector's Palace Concert Hall 45 minutes before the screening.
