The summer cinema is returning to Zadar - on Poljana Branko Stojakovića, between the Zadar Puppet Theater and the Church of St. Dominica, on Sunday, July 21, the first outdoor screening will be held. The summer cinema, or as it is called by the initiators and organizers from the Alliance of Independent Cultural Centre, "Cinema Zone", will be located in that area until September 22, after which screenings, the organizers hope, will continue indoors.
- Kino Zona or open-air film screenings are a kind of announcement of creating the habit of watching different, engaged and non-commercial films, which should grow into a constant in Zadar in the form of the Cinematheque. Given that we have significant assistance from the City of Zadar's Department of Culture, Zadar Concert Office and the Zadar Puppet Theater, such ideas could realistically be realized. We have their help even now, for holding 19 screenings, which will be shown in the open space - said Andrej Fric, president of the Alliance of Independent Cultural Centre.
Films in the Kino Zona will be held twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, beginning at 9 p.m. There will be some shifts in terms only during the Monoplay festival. Tickets will be charged 20 kuna, and there will be 150 seats in the open-air cinema.
Andrej Fric, Ivica Perinović and Marko Županović said at a meeting with journalists on Thursday that they "interspersed genres" in the selection, so that viewers will not be greeted only by dramas and "difficult topics".
- The emphasis is on authorial, not commercial films. In the cultural context, Zadar lacks this type of cinema and this media has been the least represented in Zadar for the last 20 years - said Županović.
The film that opens the Kino Zona on Sunday is the Argentine-Spanish film "Wild Stories", omnibus that brings six stories with a common theme of violence and revenge.
All films have Croatian subtitles.
