On Monday at 6 pm, the guest of the Kino Zona is the director of the Subversive Film Festival from Zagreb, Dina Pokrajac. Together with the artistic director doc. dr. sc. Mario Županović, they will lead a discussion on the importance and position of Subversive in the context of film festivals in Croatia and the region, as well as on the inevitable topics of politicization and ideologization of art.
You will find out what the role and mission of Subversive is in the context of time and preoccupation with social networks and how intimate and identity themes shape the festival itself if you join the panel discussion on Monday, February 17 at 6 pm in the Rector's Palace Multimedia Hall.
Discover how much and in what way politics and ideology affect culture and art and what is the importance of the subversive in all this in the interactive conversation, which is another among the engaged programs that the KinoZona will realize in 2020. In the second part of the discussion, we open the topic of the subversive within the field of popular culture and media. In this part of the program we will be joined by Dr. sc. Zlatko Bukač, postdoctoral student from the Department of English at the University of Zadar, whose area of interest is popular culture.
The panel will be followed by a screening of Richard Billingham’s intriguing and award-winning debut "Ray and Liz". Ray is the author’s perpetually alcoholic father. Liz is the author’s mother, addicted to nicotine, knitting and puzzles. They become the dominant motif of his artistic photographs in which he documents his own upbringing in a poor neighborhood of Birmingham in the Thatcherism era. That is why the author's film debut is an extended arm of his photographic opus. It is as if he decided to give him a movement with this sincere cinematic gesture, free from miserabilism and sentimental moves typical of British "kitchen sink" social.
Viewers will have the opportunity to see the winner of last year’s 12th Subversive Festival upon completion of a panel discussion on subversion on film on Monday at 8pm at the Rector’s Palace Concert Hall. You can buy tickets on Monday from 8 am to 2 pm in the premises of the Alliance of Independent Culture Centre (across the post office in Relja) and at the screening location 45 minutes before the start.
