On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the eighteenth century, a female painter is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman.

Brittany, France, 1760. Painter Marianne is given the task of making a wedding portrait of Héloïse, a young girl who has just left the convent. Héloïse is destined to marry against her will, and Marianne has to paint her without her knowledge. Day after day she watches her and secretly paints her during the night. Intimacy and attraction are soon born between the two women as they share Héloïse’s first and last moments of freedom together, and until Marianne paints a portrait that will mark the end of their relationship.
