Rome, 1970s: Clara and Felice have moved into a new apartment. Their marriage has reached a point of no return: they don't love each other anymore, but they can't leave each other.

The children are the only thing that holds them together; children who are the way for all Clara's dreams of freedom. The eldest, Adriana, has just turned twelve, and Clara's mood swings and growing tension between her parents are happening under her watchful eye.
