A modern fairy tale inspired by the dark myth of the water fairy who can earn her soul only by marrying a man.
In the latest work of the popular German director Christian Petzold (Barbara, Phoenix, Transit), Undine (Paula Beer) is a historian and urban young woman, employed at the museum. When her lover Johannes leaves her, Undine must submit to an ancient myth: if the man she loves is betrayed, she must kill him and return to the water. But before she can carry out her plan, Christoph will catch her eye. In this contemporary reinterpretation of the Little Mermaid, Undine throws off the role of a rejected, helpless woman and falls in love again.
The film premiered at the Berlinale, where Paula Beer was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Actress, and the Best Actress award at the recently held European Film Awards.
